Honorees Dr. Charles H. '75 and Rachel Korman
Charles H. Korman is a lifelong member of Har Zion Temple. He graduated in 1975 from Akiba Hebrew Academy (now Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy), where he continues to be an active alumnus, a major donor, and board member. Charles offers invaluable oversight to the Development, Finance and Strategic Planning Committees of the JBHA board. From his earliest days in USY, JCRC Youth Council and Penn Hillel, Charlie has demonstrated his commitment and compassion to the Jewish community as he transitioned from business to medicine. Throughout his professional life he has maintained that visionary focus. Today, in addition to tirelessly supporting Barrack, he is also a board member for Camp Ramah in the Poconos, and a member of the medical leadership committee of Temple University Hospital Jeanes Campus. In addition, he serves on numerous other committees for Temple University Health System.
Born and raised in Wynnewood, Rachel Korman has always been strongly connected to Jewish life, learning and education. She devotes both her personal and professional time to ensuring the continuity and vitality of our community. She earned a Bachelor of Arts with high honors in both Psychology and Elementary Education from Brandeis University. She then went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Education from Temple University. For eight summers, Rachel worked at Camp Ramah in the Poconos. In addition to raising a family, Rachel has been a General Studies teacher at Perelman Jewish Day School for the past three decades. There, she was instrumental in starting the Student Council as part of the Perelman Civics Education curriculum, and she continues to be the council’s advisor at the Forman Center, where she is also the Social Studies Coordinator.
