Building the Future—Together
The following was shared with our community on February 26, 2026.

Dear Families and Friends,
We are writing to share important news about Perelman Jewish Day School and Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy and our vision to ensure that Jewish education and community leadership flourish in Greater Philadelphia for generations to come.
We are excited to announce that our schools―together representing 150 years of educational excellence in our community―will jointly launch a premier, independent PreK-12 Jewish community day school. Pending regulatory approval, we plan for the new unified school to open in fall 2027.
Why a unified school?
At Perelman and Barrack, students and their families have always been at the heart of everything we do. We share an unwavering commitment to an exceptional academic program infused with Jewish wisdom and values, a strong connection to Israel and the Jewish people, and the preparation of students to live lives of purpose, leadership, and contribution. Today, as we plan for a vibrant Jewish future, our mission has never been more crucial.
For nearly two years, Board leaders and Heads of School from both institutions have engaged in thoughtful, sustained collaboration to explore how best to advance Jewish education for the future. This work has affirmed what we believe deeply: together, we can build on the distinctive strengths, traditions, and cultures families cherish at each school—while creating something even stronger for the next generation.
What will the new school be like?
The unified school will be the only PreK-12 Jewish community day school in Greater Philadelphia, serving the broad spectrum of our Jewish community in a dynamic, innovative learning environment. It will draw intentionally upon the histories and values of both Perelman and Barrack.
Our vision is ambitious and joyful―a transformative educational experience in which students are known and nurtured, grow to their fullest potential, engage meaningfully in Jewish learning and life, deepen their commitment to Israel, and make a lasting impact in the world. Concurrently, we seek to build deeper relationships across Jewish Philadelphia through ongoing engagement with families and partners in the broader community, realizing our vision of the school as a welcoming hub for learning, growth, and connection.
Who will lead the new school?
We are thrilled to announce that Rabbi Marshall Lesack, Barrack Hebrew Academy’s Head of School since 2021―and a Barrack alumnus and Perelman alumni parent―has been appointed the first Head of School, and Daniel Eisenstadt, an officer of the Perelman Board of Directors, will chair the new school’s Board. We will have additional details about the remaining leadership structure to share in the year ahead.
What can families expect in 2026-27 and beyond?
Perelman and Barrack will maintain their current operations for the 2026-27 school year, while beginning to unify their admissions and development programs. Each school will be led by a dedicated senior leadership team working closely with Rabbi Lesack. Perelman’s Head of School search continues to be led with great care and flexibility, with a focus on identifying candidates seeking an interim role—individuals who will ensure Perelman continues to thrive as we prepare to launch the new school.
Beginning in fall 2027, faculty and staff from both schools will come together in the new unified school―located across the three Perelman and Barrack campuses. Families can look forward to the academic excellence and caring community they value, paired with new opportunities and experiences made possible through the unification of our legacy schools.

Welcome!
We are redefining the Jewish education landscape in Greater Philadelphia, and we can’t wait to share this exciting next chapter with you.
Our new unified PreK-12 independent Jewish community day school is scheduled to open in fall 2027.
Created by a committed group of educators, administrators, and lay leaders at Perelman Jewish Day School and Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy―together with leading consultants and advisors―the new school will cultivate academic excellence rooted in Jewish wisdom and values. The school will offer an innovative and inclusive environment, providing academic and cultural continuity throughout a students’ education journey, strengthened by greater resources than would be available from two separate schools.
