Community Connections Faculty Parents Students

Jewish learning, Jewish values and a fervent commitment to pluralism are at the heart of everything we do at Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy. Our school fosters an atmosphere of respect that welcomes students from all streams of the Jewish community. Our faculty's dedication to cultivating open minds and encouraging lively discussions about Jewish teachings, texts and practices provide an excellent Jewish education while encouraging personalized and well developed interpretations of what it means to be Jewish.

At Barrack, a vibrant Jewish life both in and out of the classroom revolves around the Jewish calendar. Students feel the rhythm of the Jewish year in regular Shacharit services, class discussions about the weekly Torah readings, Shabbaton programs and holiday celebrations. Our students forge strong bonds with Israel, and they practice the timeless Jewish tradition of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world through community service projects in the middle school, community service internships in the twelfth grade year, and in regular acts of chesed (lovingkindness) that place in the form of food drives, toy collections, an annual visit by the Bloodmobile and through ongoing partnerships with other institutions in Israel and in the Philadelphia area.

To accommodate the wide variety of authentic Jewish expressions among Barrack students, food served at all school events is strictly kosher; Shabbaton programming emphasizes the importance of community and observance levels are established so that everyone feels welcome; Saturday evening games, performances and other events do not begin until well after sundown.
