Visual Arts courses and experiences provide Barrack Middle and Upper School students with myriad opportunities to discover and cultivate their unique talents and interests. Courses in the Visual Arts are structured to balance technical, historical and practical "hands on" learning. Under the direction of mosaic artist and jewelry designer Laura Lyn Stern, students spend the majority of their class time working in the art studio, creating projects using a wide variety of materials and processes. Cultivating creativity, acknowledging historical influences, and building manual skills are primary areas of focus for the Visual Arts department. Jewish imagery and symbols are also explored and interwoven throughout the curriculum. Current elective offerings include: Two Dimensional Art, Painting, Printmaking, Three Dimensional Art, Art Skills, Creating Art, Digital Photography and Decorative Crafts.
Students have many opportunities to showcase their work in solo and school-wide exhibitions, and in juried shows held throughout the Tri-State area. In addition to their hands-on experiences, Barrack students graduate with a deep understanding of and keen appreciation for the Visual Arts.
