Student Support

Our network of support services helps our young adults develop, grow, and thrive—emotionally, socially, and academically.

As they get to know each student, our caring, involved teachers, administrators, Resource instructors, guidance counselors, and advisors encourage open and frequent communication.

Our team also maintains close contact with families, working with parents and professionals to manage social and emotional issues, solve educational challenges, and address learning differences. Through effective communication, thoughtful support systems, and one-on-one relationships, we help our students achieve success.

Counseling

School counselors at Barrack promote wellness and help our young adults develop the mindset, knowledge, insight, and skills needed to promote wellness and make judicious decisions.

Our professional counselors—dedicated specifically for middle school or for upper school students only—work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and administrators to support our students’ emotional, behavioral, intellectual, and social development.

Our counselors offer:
  • A safe place for students to speak in confidence individually or in groups, as well as in conflict-mediation meetings
  • Support to new students and families adjusting to life at Barrack
  • Division-wide and school-wide programming for students and parents promoting health, wellness, positive coping skills, and self-actualization
  • Referrals to outside agencies and professionals

Advisory

Advisory serves as an important social and emotional resource, providing a safe place to share ideas, opinions, and challenges.

Individual Advising

Each student is assigned to a faculty member or administrator who serves as their advisor throughout the middle school and/or upper school years. An advisor is a listener as well as an advocate and coach throughout a student’s journey here. In addition to once-a-cycle meetings, advisors meet with each individual at least once every trimester.

Group Advising

Advisory groups provide an enhanced forum for follow-up discussions after special assemblies and school events and lend additional information and support during the regular school week. Group members develop trusting relationships and strong connections with each other and their advisor.

Resource Center

We understand that students learn and process information differently. In our Resource Center, we prepare those with various learning differences to develop the skills and strengths they need to be independent and successful at Barrack and beyond.

Skill support for students, support for teachers, and a hub for collaboration between student support teams.
