2023-24 Health & Safety Plan

At Barrack, we pledge to uphold our Derech Eretz values of Honor-כבוד | Courage-אומץ לב | Kindness-חסד | Community-קהילה annually. Underlying these values of our school is the talmudic concept of כל ישראל ערבים זה בזה — Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh BaZeh (Shevuot 39a), requiring all in our community to be responsible for one another.

Guided by this foundational idea, the health, safety, and well-being of our students, staff members, teachers, and families are always the primary concern. As we seek to protect and balance both the physical and the emotional health of our students and our community, beginning the first week of school, we will be adopting a “mask optional” policy in our school buildings, on our buses and vans, and while on campus.

To keep our students and staff as safe and healthy as possible, on a daily basis, parents are asked to monitor their children for symptoms of illness. We will no longer be using the Daily RUVNA Screen.

We will continue to follow community level guidance provided by the CDC this fall and throughout the year. While the COVID-19 Community Level data for Delaware County in the “medium” risk category currently, please note our policies are subject to change throughout the year based on local incidence data.

Masking

Daily Symptom Monitoring

Parents will monitor their child daily for symptoms of illness:

Fever (Temp >100)
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

For students exhibiting symptoms of illness, parents will perform a rapid COVID test at home. Students who tests negative for COVID may attend school wearing a mask for 5 days with the following symptoms:

Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Muscle or body aches
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose

Student must be free of symptoms for 24 hours before returning to campus for any of the following:

Fever (Temp >100)
Diarrhea
Vomiting

Positive COVID Cases

Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID will complete a 5-day isolation period. The date the student or staff member tests positive is Day 0.

Parents should contact the school nurse and the student will be able to transition to online learning as tolerated during their illness.

In order to return to campus, the following requirements must be met on Day 5 through Day 10:

A rapid test is to be administered each morning on Days 5 through 10.
Students/staff members who are asymptomatic and have a negative rapid test are able to return to campus under our “mask optional” policy.
Student/staff members who have a negative rapid test and are still experiencing COVID symptoms will wear a mask on Days 5-10 or until symptoms resolve. Student/staff members will also eat lunch outdoors (weather permitting) or in a designated private location indoors.

Household Close Contacts

If a household close contacts tests positive for COVID-19, the Barrack student or staff member must follow this protocol:

If asymptomatic, the student or staff member will take a rapid test at home on Days 1, 3 & 5 after exposure. If the rapid test is negative and the individual remains asymptomatic, the student or staff member is able to come to campus under our “mask optional”policy.
If symptomatic, the individual is a “presumed positive” and will be isolated for 5 days from symptom onset and return to campus per COVID positive guidelines.

Rapid Antigen Testing

Symptoms During School

Any teachers, students, and staff who develop the following symptoms while on campus can get a rapid COVID test prior to being sent home. Return to campus will be on a case by case basis.

Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
