Protecting Our Future
Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy is most grateful
to those farsighted benefactors who began our Endowment
Fund in 1959 with gifts totaling $500. Over time, the
fund began to grow thanks to gifts from many individuals
and foundation. Since endowments are invested with only
a percentage of the interest income available for spending,
gifts to Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy’s endowment provide
a perpetual source of income to the School while allowing
the principal to grow.
To secure Barrack Hebrew Academy’s position as one of Philadelphia’s
finest college-preparatory institutions, our endowment
must grow. A firmly established endowment will provide
resources for Barrack Hebrew Academy to plan for the future. At year-end,
August 31, 2004, the Barrack Hebrew Academy endowment fund was in excess
of $2 million.
Endowment serves three primary purposes: to preserve
the value and/or intention of the donors’ gifts;
to provide a vehicle for increasing the value of the
donors’ gifts after inflation and operating subsidies;
and most importantly to ensure the continued existence
of the institution. Income from the endowment may be
targeted for such needs as faculty professional development
and compensation, financial aid for students in need,
technology upgrades and advances, and drama and fine
arts.
Barrack Hebrew Academy’s Endowment Fund welcomes contributions
and pledges of any amount. Named or designated funds
may be established for any approved purpose with a gift
or pledge of $50,000 or more. Barrack Hebrew Academy assures sound stewardship
of every named endowment fund through a memorandum of
understanding that expresses the donor’s and Barrack Hebrew Academy’s
intent. In addition, Barrack Hebrew Academy provides each donor of a
named endowment fund with annual reports on fund status.
To make a gift to one of the restricted funds, or to
