The Honorable Michael A. Nutter. Mayor of Philadelphia, presented a proclamation to Barrack Hebrew Academy at the conclusion of his address to a school-wide assembly on May 23. The proclamation declared Thursday May 23, 2012 as PROACTIVE CITIZENSHIP DAY at Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy (and throughout the City of Philadelphia) in recognition of proactive citizenship and community service that are hallmarks of a Barrack education.The proclamation went on to say, "... Barrack students take the privilege of voting very seriously and recognize the importance of youth in politics." The Mayor's address to the students included a brief overview of politics in the region, a press conference phone call shared via speaker phone, and a lively Q & A session with Barrack students. On hand to welcome Mayor Nutter were Leonard '60 and Lynne Barrack, communal leaders and school benefactors. Accepting the Proclamation are Sharon P. Levin, Head of School, and Joshua Horowitz, Barrack junior and Student Association President.
