The Revenge!!

“Good morning, Ajax!” Ithaca said as he entered the exercise field.

“Same to you, Ithaca.  Are you preparing for the big horse race next week?”  Ajax responded, walking over to shake his hand.

“Yes, as are you, I assume…then please refrain from your petty overture, as we are now enemies!” roared Ithaca.

Flabbergasted, Ajax harshly retaliated, “Well!  Never in my life have I been so insulted.   But this will all be resolved when my horse, Tibarn, leaves you to consume my dust!”

“Really!?  I bet 205 talents that my horse, Giffca, takes home first prize!” Ithaca retorted, while giving Ajax the cold shoulder.  Ajax grunted and expectorated on the dirt track.  Ithaca publicly announced, “On this day next week, I shall create a new cleaning solution in commemoration of my great victory over my arch nemesis, Ajax.  It will scour toilets, new and old, down to the last bit of poo!  This concoction shall be titled, AJAX BLEACH!”  The crowd burst into laughter, mocking and pointing at Ajax, shouting things like, “Ha! Whoever named you should be shoved onto a busy trade route and stoned!” and, “Learn hieroglyphics and go to Egypt!”  Ajax was so upset that he ran all the way home, crying, to plot his revenge.

After four long days of scheming, the perfect revenge was near but still eluded him.  He heard something fall and shatter.  “Hahaha!  Mufufu!  Buahahahahahaha!  That’s it!  The best idea of them all!”

On the day of the race, Ajax prepared a stumbling block three quarters of the way to the finish line in Giffca’s path.

The horses were let out of the stables and the race began!  Ithaca shouted to Ajax, “We’ve practiced all day, every day this week!”

Giffca and Tibarn were neck in neck for almost half the race, but when Giffca pulled ahead, he collapsed!  The race was immediately halted, and the horses kept their position as their riders crowded around their fallen opponent.  Ajax thought it was too early for the block to take effect, and he was right!  Due to stress, Giffca’s heart had stopped, and he immediately died.  The gods had struck him dead for what his master had done one week ago!

The race continued and it was an easy win for Tibarn.  When Ajax was given the trophy, he rejected it, and gave it to Giffca!  He had earned it!!
