The Shattered Artifact
By Hannah K.
Ever since the pot that I loved shattered two weeks ago, I’ve missed seeing that gorgeous artifact around my house. I missed waking up in the late morning and seeing a gold and yellow pot with beautiful black detailing. I missed trying to find out the hidden story that lay beneath the picture on the pot. I always knew the pot’s origin; I figured it was most likely a Greek pot from ancient times. I could tell because of the clothing that the people on the pot were wearing and by the striking jewelry that the women wore. On the pot there was a master that Egyptians would have called a pharaoh, and the people were bowing down to him. I could tell that this pot wasn’t from recent times because in our society today we don’t have such masters. Also, by the way the pot was shaped I knew that it had to be old.
I decided to buy another pot at the Museum of Greek Artifacts. I wanted a pot I could relate to. As soon as I stepped foot in the museum, I fell in love with an amazing pot. I knew it was the one for me. It seemed to be telling me a story about a youthful woman who was being pampered by many different people. The men are fanning her face and bowing down to her. The man that is behind her is fanning the other side of her body. The ancient Greeks pampered people because they believed that the body was beautiful and they always wanted the body to look good, stay youthful, and not get weak.
I have a feeling that this new addition to my house will give it a new feeling. I think that when people walk into my house and notice that spectacular pot they will see their own story. I also have a feeling that when people look at the pot they will think about what the artist was thinking when he or she was making this pot. I think that the artist was thinking about the differences between men and women. I also think the artist was thinking of the upper class in ancient times. I think that this pot can relate to modern times because today we still have rulers and we have people who pamper our bodies for a living. Even though these old pots are artifacts they are also very valuable and different from modern pots. On ancient pots there are beautiful details and pictures of people with old looking clothing and people showing their bodies. In modern pots we have a different kind of detailing. The colors on the older pots are much darker and the pots are usually one shape or size. I always enjoyed seeing the pot that was shattered in my house but I have a feeling that I will be even more excited to see this new addition to my house and to add it to my art collection.
