Barrack Torah Dedication Heralds Shavuot

Dedication Festivities Include a Torah Procession, Music, Dancing and More

SJCC B’Nai Aaron Synagogue Presents Two Torahs to Barrack Hebrew Academy Heralding the Holiday of Shavuot with A Joyful Celebration on June 6

Bryn Mawr, PA (Friday, May 11, 2011)
Barrack Hebrew Academy students, faculty and families will receive two Torahs and an Ark from Suburban Jewish Community Center B’Nai Aaron at the school on Monday, June 6, 9am-10:45am. The dedication festivities will herald the Jewish holiday of Shavuot that will be celebrated throughout the Jewish world on June 8 and 9.

Shavuot celebrates God’s gift of the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai more than 3,300 years ago,” shares Dr. Steven M. Brown, Head of School. “It is therefore very timely and appropriate that we dedicate the Torahs from SJCC B’Nai Aaron Synagogue the week of June 6. The Torahs will enhance our traditional and egalitarian minyanim (services) and enrich the lives of our students for generations to come.”

Festivities at the school will include a lively Torah procession led by Barrack students, music, dancing, brief ceremonies, and a student-led assembly, all followed by a delicious reception. Ceremony participants will include school and community leaders, Rabbi Lisa Malik of SJCC B’Nai Aaron, members of her congregation, Barrack students active in the school’s daily and weekly services, and Jewish Leadership Initiative members advised by faculty member Sarah Waxman.

Daniel Raikin, a Barrack senior, has spearheaded the dedication program with Seyna Abel, a SJCC B’Nai Aaron congregant and Barrack parent. “Plans are underway for SJCC B’Nai Aaron to merge with Congregation Adath Israel, and we are very pleased that two Torahs from our synagogue will be used by Barrack students on a regular basis,” comments Mrs. Abel. “There are no better gifts than gifts of learning and continuity.”
