Technology

At Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy, we integrate technical skill-building into the entire Upper School curriculum. There is a great deal of emphasis placed on utilizing computers for research, to solve problems, write papers, collaborate on assignments, and learn key elements related to the foreign languages we offer.

Our new ninth and tenth grade students are required to take a class to build their computer skills for success in school and in today's high-tech world. This class includes learning how to access Google Documents, networking, working with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), and using programs such as Adobe Photoshop and web page design. Students are also offered the opportunity to take electives in illustration, filming animation/video editing, and web site building, depending on their grade level.

We have laptop carts (portable classrooms) equipped with wireless networked laptops and/or tablet computers and a computer lab with 24 PCs with Windows Vista and Office 2007. In addition to the computers in the computer lab and the laptop carts, students are able to use their own laptops or school computers in various other locations throughout the school to access the internet and/or print their documents.

Our classrooms are all equipped with computers, projectors, built-in media equipment or SMART Boards. This technology allows our teachers to create a much richer and interactive classroom experience for our students. The faculty's use of our website to post assignments and provide students with enrichment materials and resources empowers our students to complete assignments more effectively on their own and expands the scope of our curriculum.
