History

The history program at Barrack Hebrew Academy teaches students the skills to become responsible citizens of the United States, the world, and the Jewish community. Our Upper School history program emphasizes an inquiry approach and is document-based to encourage students to develop essential critical thinking, reading, and writing skills.

History classes involve student-centered discussions and experiential learning through debates, simulation activities, and the use of technology in the classroom. The program covers world history and cultures, European history and United States history, with the integration of Jewish history at each grade level.

There is an emphasis on analytical and expository writing in every course. A researched thesis paper is required in each year of the Upper School, which involves gathering and interpreting evidence, analyzing concepts and synthesizing information.

History classes are grouped heterogeneously. Senior year electives in AP United States Government and Politics, as well as Economics, are offered in addition to history class.
