At Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy, we integrate technical skill- building into the entire Middle School curriculum and provide a mandatory course for new students. This class includes keyboarding, email and Google documents, networking, and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel.) The use of Adobe Photoshop and Web page design is explored as time allows.
We emphasize using computers for research, problem solving, writing papers, collaborating on assignments, and learning key elements related to the foreign languages we offer. Students in sixth and seventh grade are also offered an elective in video editing. By the time our Middle School students reach Upper School, they are prepared to succeed in class and in a high-tech world.
We have laptop carts (portable classrooms) equipped with wireless networked laptops and/or tablet computers, and a computer lab with 24 PCs with Windows Vista and Office 2007. In addition to the computers in the computer lab and the laptop carts, students are able to use their own laptops or school computers in various other locations throughout the school to access the internet and/or print their documents. Our classrooms are all equipped with computers, projectors, and built-in media equipment. SMART Boards are strategically located in some classrooms as well. This technology allows our teachers to create a much richer and interactive classroom experience. The faculty's use of our website to post assignments and provide students with enrichment materials and resources empowers our students to complete assignments more effectively on their own and expands the scope of our curriculum.
