Class rules and procedures

Materials you will need

  • Textbook
  • Binder: workbook/grammar workbook/notebook with college-ruled paper.
  • Pencil or blue/black/purple pens [no red/pink].
  • Be here and Be here on time

Much of what we will do each day is set up and discussed in the first 15 minutes of class. Discussions and other class oral experiences cannot be made up. Tardiness will not be tolerated.

  • Come to class prepared:

Bring your class materials with you everyday. Come to class having completed your homework and be prepared to participate.

  • Treat everyone with respect; expect to be treated with respect

This means everything from raising your hands before you speak, to how you address others.

  • Follow instructions:

Just do it.

Do not assume. Ask.

Other technicalities:

  • Homework and projects are due at the beginning of class.

All major assignments must be turned in on the due date, even if you are out that day with an excused absence.

  • No sunglasses or hats in class (other than Kippah, of course).
  • No food, drink or gum in class, unless approved by me.

Late work

  • Work is late if not turned in at the beginning of class on the due date.
  • Minus 20% of the possible score if tuned in by the beginning of the next class meeting after due date
  • Minus 50% after this time.

School Activities do not excuse you from doing your homework or taking a quiz/test assigned in advance. Students who will not be in class due to sports or any other school activities should notify me before class, and take the assigned quiz/test during break/lunch of that same day. Failing to do so will result in 0%.

Make-up for Absences

  • It is very difficult to do well in this class if you are often absent.
  • Work that is assigned the day of an absence is due the day that you return. It is your responsibility to find out the homework, and come prepared for class.
  • Tests and Quizzes are to be made up on the day that you return. Failing to do so with out my approval will result in a 0%.

    Grade Determination

The most important factors in being a successful student are consistent effort, the willingness to work hard and the commitment to improve.

Your grades will be based on the total points. The categories and approximate percentages are:

  • Preparation                      10%
  • Quizzes                            25%
  • Tests                                 30%
  • Projects                            20%
This includes essays, presentations and culture projects.
  • Participation & class work 15%

  • Extra credit
Opportunities for extra credit are available constantly. Take advantage of it.

Barrack Hebrew Academy rules and procedures prevail in this class as in every class. You are expected to follow them!

Bonne Chance!
