Jewish Studies 12  Intensive Text Study 

    Introduction to the themes for the quarter: Positive commandments of Shabbat, The imperative to imbibe on Purim, and the positive commandemnts of the Seder night. Each of these topics will be addressed through Biblical, Talmudic and Halachic texts.

Cycle One

Look at the sources from Mishnah Torah about candle-lighting. With a partner, look at the commentaries to Rambam's text and trace it through one additional halachic source. Keep excellent notes of class. They will be checked regularly.

Cycle Two

Continue in sources about positive commandments about Shabbat. Conclusion of sources about candle-lighting.

As we read Parshat Yitro this week, we will be looking at the laws that are based upon the fourth of the zexacd zxyr. At least one QUIZ this week!

Cycle Three

This week, we will begin looking at the material regarding the Torah obligations of Shabbat observance, namely "kiddush" and "havdalah"
