Tanakh 10-4

Welcome to Tanakh 10-4.  I am looking forward to spending the year in text study together.

Over the course of the first semester we will study Sefer M'lakhim (Book of Kings), following the transition of the monarchy in Israel from David to Shlomo (Solomon), through the division into the two kingdoms of Judah and Israel, and follow the exploits of the various kings.  Appearing in a starring roll in Sefer M'lakhim are the famous prophet Eliyahu (Elijah) and his protege Elisha.

We will look at the building of the first Bet HaMikdash (Temple) by Shlomo and, during our second semester, witness its destruction.  During our second semester we will also study excerpts of the prophets Yeshayahu (Isaiah) and Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah) as they relate to (and fortell) some of the events of Sefer M'lakhim.

Dates for quizzes and tests will be posted over the course of the year.

EXTRA CREDIT OPTION - For those of you who would like another way to demonstrate your understanding of the material we have been covering recently, you may write a diary entry of at least one page.  You are either: Hezekiah writing at the time period of the Assyrian siege OR Isaiah during his initial prophetic vision.  This piece is due at the latest Wednesday June 11th. It must be printed out and handed in during our review period.  No assignments will be accepted after that time.
