The course covers the closing era of judges and the begining of the Israelite monarchy. Shmuel the prophet serves as the bridge between the two eras, judging Israel and serving as the prophet anointing the first two Israelite kings. From Hannah's vow, dedicating her son to serve God, the study of the character of Shmuel as prophet, judge and priest is central to our course. Much of the course however, is concentrated on the personalities of Shaul and david and the effect their rule had on the nation.

This course uses the book of Shmuel Aleph and Beit with commentaries. A full Tanach is used when necessary. The course follows the order of the book of Shmuel, although many chapters are either skipped or covered superficially in the interest of time and priorities.

The first quarter will cover a review of the book of judges, and study of Shmuel Aleph chapters  1 - 4, a section from chapter 5, and chapters 8 - 10, with commentaries.

Reading Rashi script will be required.

Preparation sheets for each chapter are handed out at the begining of each study unit (chapter).
