NETA PROGRAM
Hoveret 13 (4th Quarter)
This quarter we will learn about traveling, moving, trips, visits in far away lands and excursions. The emphasis will be on flying to Israel and visits to Jerusalem through the generations. The adventures and the dangers of the road will also be studies as well as the visit of Medieval peoples to the Holy Land. We will also learn about diverse means of transportation and the wandering of the Jews throughout history, which will be analyzed through the text. Various types of sentences will be utilized in students' writing of compositions and in their oral presentations.
May 5-May 9: This week we will continue our preparation of the project of this quarter.Students will be asked to place on their map the settlements and the major roads of the people of Israel in their way from Sinai to the Promised Land.Students need to write a composition about the dangers in adventures and the reasons for the risks on the road.We will also study the preposition "bishvi" based on unit 26.students will write their own examples of this prepostio.We will coclude with section 27 which deals with the good life in Israel by introducing various places of entertainement in the country.
Students will speak in class about the suggestions given in the section and to offer a new list in additio to the one in unit 27.
May12-May16:This week we will dedicate all lessons to the adventures of Benjamin Mitudela based on units 33 ,34 and 35.Students will read the sections and they will prepared two compositions explaining the reasons for his journey and the nature of his records.They will be expected to deliver a
short lecture on the motivations of wars and conquests based on unit 33.Finally ,all classes will be taken their mid-term examination.
May 19-May 23:This week we will study the preposition 'leyad"(near) based on unit 37.Students will be asked to write their own sentences in order to demontrare their understanding of the grammatical implications of this preposition.We will also start our discussion abot the movements of languages in the world based on unit 38. Students will write and discuss the influece of Yiddish Russian Arabic and Enghish on modern Hebrew and the historical reasons of this development.
May 25-May 29:This week we will complete our work on the project of the quarter and begin units 41 and 42.The units deal with reflections about oneself and way to detemine your goals in life.In
addition,the units deal with the capacity of men and women to fail and succeed but never to surrender to difficult circumstances.Students are required to speak about their dreames in Hebrew and ways to achieve themThey are also required to write about this subject and to use the words in the units in .their composition.
June 2-June 6This week we will compare sentences written in biblical Hebrew with israeli Hebrew
Unit 56 will be used ro demonstrate the differences.Students will be asked to write their own examples of this phenomenon. Unit 58 we will study the movements of the jewish people through history with the verb"to go, to walk". Here students need to write their examples of jews moving from land to land and the reasons for their departure.We will review the words and the idioms at the end of the hoveret in order to master all the material tought this quarter..
