Current Events

ASSIGNMENT:

Once every other cycle, on   F     day, you will hand in a typed response to an article on current events.  You will also present your article orally to the class.   Half the class will be one week and the other half of the class will be the other week

1)Your current events assignment should include two paragraphs:

a)  The first paragraph should be a summary of the article in which you address the 5 W’s.  Be sure to write in your own words! In one paragraph summaries you should try not to use quotes.  If you do choose to quote a phrase or passage, remember to include quotation marks.

b) The second paragraph should include your reaction to the material.  Consider some or all of the following:

           -  What did you learn from the article?

            - Do you agree or disagree with the views expressed and why?

           -  How does the event or news report relate to you or your “world?”

           -  Is this information interesting or useful?  Explain.

           - Why is this information important?

-Why should someone else read the article you selected?

2)  In addition there should be a citation for you article at the bottom of the page. We will reviewed the proper format in class.  You have your class notes and you may use your Noodletools account to create a well formatted citation.

  • For your oral presentation you should be sufficiently familiar with the information in your article to give a short, informal, oral presentation to the class. Do not read your article or summary; instead, speak directly to the class, discussing the information in your own words. Be prepared to answer questions from your classmates. You may refer to your article and summary, as needed.

3) Cut out or print the article and staple it to the back of your summary

FYI: Format information:

-At the top of the page:  Your name, class, date and article Classification

-At the bottom of the page: Citation

-Staple the article and your written report together
