Art Program at Barrack Hebrew Academy

6th Grade:
Students continue to examine Art of other cultures as well as individual artists in addition to learning specific Art - making techniques . We are currently working with clay . Students will learn how to build a lidded coil pot and will make a slab construction that has sculptural additions. Projects will be fired and glazed to finish.
7th Grade:
The seventh grade is currently working on a Color project. We will first explore how mixing paint works. Each student will make a three part color chart which will include a color wheel, value and intensity lines. A series of observational still life paintings will be done utilizing what the students have learned about color mixing .
8th Grade:
Eighth grade students are working on submissions for the Mordechai Anielewicz Holocaust Art Contest , a city wide competition of artwork which explores the Holocaust theme. Our next project will be a Printmaking Design assignment in which pattern and color will be the central focus of exploration.
Art Majors:
In Art Majors, students have the time to explore and develop their individual artistic visions as well as participate in group projects .Students are currently working on submissions for the Mordechai Anielewicz Holocaust Art Contest . In March , we will visit the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.A study of self portraits will follow our visit to the exhibit.
