9 - 3 Tanach
Dr. Saundra Sterling Epstein
It is Wednesday February 6, 2008 and I welcome all to the Second Semester. As we continue to look at the stories of Rebellion in the Book of BaMidbar, we are now including the voice of Parshanut -- the commentaries. Students are analyzing the texts of our Torah and looking at the intersection of their questions and the words of our Commentators. Students will be completing their first assignment of analysis within the next two weeks.
Also, today, we had a class devoted to the Source Theory. There will be a tracking quiz (open book/open notes) on this tomorrw, as this is used in some of our compiled Tanach texts, including Milgrom's translation/interpretation of the book of BaMidbar, which we are using right now in our study.

March 17, 2008. Students are working on their paper on Themes found in the Stories of Rebellion (Egel HaZahav, Meraglism, Manna, Miriam and her brothers, and Korach). This paper is due on March 31, 2008. We are finishing up the last of these stories, using commentators as well. Students have taken and passed a competency test on the proper supportive use of translation in accessing the Hebrew texts.
