7-1 Core: Ms. Scarborough-Kirk
Thursday, May 15: Creative writing assignment on To Kill a Mockingbird.
Tuesday, May 27, B day: Finish reading To Kill a Mockingbird. Continue to highlight lessons learned by Jem and Scout about key themes listed on their creative writing assignment (see above, May 15). In addition, they should continue to jot answers to their study guide questions, either in their books or on a separate sheet of paper.
Wednesday, May 28: Point of view creative writing on To Kill a Mockingbird . Students have a handout containing the directions.
Friday, May 30: The quiz on literary terms will be postponed. Instead, students should reread the directions for the first step on their final papers on To Kill a Mockingbird. We reviewed them in class on Thursday. For Friday, they should write three possible thesis statements about one or more themes. These themes and directions are described in more detail on the handout reviewed in class on on Thursday. I will meet with each student in class on Friday; together, we will choose the best one and revise, if necessary.
On Friday, they will receive blank topic sentence outlines, as well as a sample outline that can serve as a model for their own.
Monday, June 2: Using their thesis statement as a starting point, students should complete a topic sentence outline. They may use the blank outline passed out in class, or create their own as a Word document. Again, they should reread the handout from Friday's class, using the sample as a guide.
Next week, the students will be working in class on their essays. Their final papers are due on Friday, June 6.
