Selected Biblical Passages with Kabbalistic Implications (Bible 12-4)
The course deals with biblical text related to the Supreme Being, the creation of man and his destiny in the universe as well as the mystical significance of the Torah will be analyzed on the basis of Medieval Jewish commentaries. Special emphasis will be place upon the mastery of fundamental Kabbalistic term and their unique context within the biblical text. The major chapters of study will be the creation of the world. Elijah’s assent ion into heaven and the Devine chariots of Ezekiel and finally the dreams and the visions of Daniel.
March 17 - March 21 -- We will further study and review the material from last week. We will emphasize the vision of Ezekiel and its meaning in various Medieval commentaries. Students will continue to deliver their short lectures and the test on Kabbilistic terms will be taken this week instead of last week.
March 24 - March 28 -- This week we will review the story of the ascension of Elijah in the Book of Kings. We will compare his unique qualities with those of Moses based on the commentaries of various medieval commentaters. We will also examine the unique relation between Elijah and Elisha, his disciple. Students will continue their short presentations on various topics in the Kabbalah and, if time permits, we will read from various chapters in the Zohar.
