10th Grade History - Summer Reading
As A Driven Leaf by Milton Steinberg
This book will be given to students before the end of the school year. It is to be returned after discussing. See Mrs. Levin if there is a problem. This book will be discussed and a paper will be assigned during the first cycle. As you read, answer the following questions. Your answers will be collected the first day of class.
1. Make a chart identifying the major characters in the book and their relationship to Elisha Ben Abuyah.
2. Record critical points in the on going development of Elisha’s internal conflict.
3. What was there about Jewish religion that was not satisfying to Elisha?
4. What did he hope to find in Greek philosophy (Hellenism)?
5. In the end, why was Hellenism not satisfying either?
