
About Barrack

- Founded in 1946 as Akiba Hebrew Academy, Barrack Hebrew Academy is the oldest pluralistic Jewish day school in North America and serves as a role model for countless other day schools throughout the world.
- The school was renamed Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy in 2007 in memory of the late brother of Leonard Barrack, an alumnus and school benefactor, Class of 1960.
- In 2008, Barrack Hebrew Academy moved to a 35-acre campus and state-of-the-art facilities in Bryn Mawr, PA.
- 290 students representing every spectrum of Jewish observance and life are enrolled in grades 6 through 12.
- Barrack students come from a variety of schools: public, independent and Jewish day schools. Hebrew is taught on all levels.
- Barrack Hebrew Academy has 49 talented and caring faculty members who average 20 years teaching experience. Over 70% hold post-Bachelor degrees, including seven PhDs and five rabbinical degrees. Six Department Chairs also teach.

- The Class of 2010’s middle 50% range in SAT scores of 642 in Math, 633 in Writing, and 605 in Critical Reading were among the highest in the region.
- 100% of the students who took the AP BC Calculus test, the highest math level, received a 5, the highest score.
- 12 members of the Class of 2010 took a gap year in Israel before entering college.
- 78% of Barrack Latin students won medals and awards in the National Latin Exam.
- The 2011 9th grade Annenberg Science Symposium Team’s presentation on liver transplants received the symposium award for the Best Presentation of a Bioethical and Medical Scenario.
- 38 juniors studied for a trimester in Israel on the Alexander Muss Campus.
- Students lead and participatein voluntary Orthodox and egalitarian minyanim throughout the year.
- Barrack’s Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team captured the Tri-County League Championship for the second year in a row.
- Barrack added lacrosse and squash to it sports roster that includes 18 sports teams.
- 100% of our Middle and Upper School students participate in community service projects and spearhead social action programs.
